Package 2: STL & CAD

A 3D CAD file created in the program SolidWorks® This is a file composed of features such as cylinders, planes and holes. The STL file forms the basis of the process in which the existing product is digitally replicated.

This is called “reverse engineering” this requires knowledge, expertise and experience. In order to “re-draw” the product, it must be determined how it was constructed and “intended” (design intent), and produced and/or worn out.

The result, the 3D CAD file is the basis for all forms of production and modifications.

This is exportable to various formats, for example, a STEP file. These files can be used for 3D printing and for CAM/CNC machining. A 2D production drawing is also possible (then).
