What is the accuracy of a scan?2024-04-19T13:25:23+00:00

In terms of accuracy, for the volumetric model (XYZ, accuracy in 3 directions) the following may be maintained: 0.020 mm plus 0.040 mm per meter scanned:

0.020 + 0.040 mm/m = accuracy

For example: a product with largest size 200 mm:

0.020 + (0.040 x 0.2) = 0.028 mm.

This is less than the diameter of a hair!

How long does the scanning take?2024-04-19T13:28:54+00:00

This depends on several factors such as format, complexity and purpose of the scan. Depending on the desired output, reverse engineering (creating a 3D CAD model) takes the most time. At the request you can enter the desired delivery time, are you in more of a hurry? Please let us know via the application form.

How quickly can I get something scanned?2024-04-23T19:26:16+00:00

Sometimes there is no rush, but regularly 3D scanning must also be done at a critical time. For example, if a machine stands still because a part is defective. At the request you can enter the desired delivery time, are you in more of a hurry? Let us know!

What is the delivery time?2024-04-19T13:25:18+00:00

When applying, choose the delivery time that suits you best. The delivery time starts from the moment we receive the product. Want a different delivery time? Please let us know via the application form.

When will I get the product back?2024-04-19T13:25:19+00:00

Once we finish the 3D scan we will send the files to you. Are you satisfied? Then we will send the product back immediately. Not quite satisfied (yet)? Then we will continue until it is right!

What files/files can be created?2024-04-19T13:25:19+00:00

This depends on the package you choose. By default, you always get an STL file.

With packages 2, 3 and 4, you always get the native SolidWorks® files. Depending on the assignment, this is anyway the “part” file (.sldprt) This is a file in which the design is composed of geometric features (featurebased, featuretree) that together form a “solid”, in which everything can be adjusted. Where necessary, it can also be partly or completely a “surface” model, for example, if double-curved surfaces are in the product.

If it is an assembly you will also get the “assembly” file (.sldasm) This is an assembly of several “part” files.

These files (part and assembly) can be exported to: STEP (.stp), IGES (.igs) and STL (.stl) for production, such as CAM operations for 3D printing or CNC turning/milling

Did you also order 2D working drawings / production drawings? Then you get these as “drawing” (.sldrw) These can be exported to a PDF file.

What is an STL file?2024-04-19T13:25:00+00:00

An STL file (Stereolithography or Standard Tessellation Language) This file is composed of a very large number of triangles that make up a three-dimensional model.

What is a STEP file?2024-04-19T13:25:19+00:00

A STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product model data) file is a file format used for exchanging 3D CAD data between different CAD software applications.

Unlike STL files, which contain primarily geometric information, STEP files can contain a wider range of information, such as geometric shapes, colors, textures, assembly hierarchies, material properties and metadata.

Can the 3D scan be compared to a CAD file?2024-04-19T13:25:01+00:00

Yes, we use specialized software for this purpose. This shows graphically, with colors, the deviations between different models. When applicable, you will also receive this file, which is a .3mf file and can be viewed with the standard Windows® 3D viewer on virtually any PC and laptop.

Can you also 3D scan in color?2024-04-19T13:25:01+00:00

We only make 3D scans of geometry, we do not scan colors or resolutions.

What are the minimum and maximum dimensions of an object to 3D scan?2024-04-23T19:37:46+00:00

We recommend keeping from about 30 to 3000mm. Smaller products often have detail that cannot be properly captured with our scanner. Should the need arise, we may be able to help you with it using another 3D scanning method, please ask. By default, we do the 3D scanning at our location and the products are delivered. For large products or other exceptions, we can also perform the 3D scan on site.

Also for larger products another 3D scanner or method is probably better suited, in doubt? Please feel free to contact.

Does the product come back undamaged?2024-04-19T13:25:00+00:00

Yes, always.

Depending on the color and surface roughness, it may be necessary to apply a non-reflective spray. Usually this is not necessary compared to other 3D scanners, however sometimes it can lead to much better scanning results. This is always by agreement and the spray used is easily removable.

For software positioning, markers are applied to the product. These come as sticker/adhesive versions in varying degrees of “stickiness” and in magnetic versions. Applied markers are always counted in advance and all are also removed. There is little to no (glue) residue, or it is removed immediately.

Should there be any products or surfaces where this could be a problem please indicate.

What can’t be scanned?2024-04-19T13:24:58+00:00

The technology of our 3D scanner works with cameras. Basically, any geometry that is visible can be scanned. Potentially tricky situations include deep, small holes, poorly accessible areas and sections that are shaded.
Other things like hair and transparent parts can be a little trickier.

This varies by situation, this can be assessed by providing photos in advance. Should we see challenges, we can discuss them in advance.

Can you do 3D printing?2024-04-19T13:25:00+00:00

Yes, with package 3 and 4 we can provide different types of 3D prints. We work with a range of reliable suppliers for all kinds of 3D printing techniques, from small to large and in different materials from resin and PLA to metals.

What 3D scanner are you guys using?2024-04-19T13:24:51+00:00

By default, we use the HandyScan Black Elite from Creaform.

How is it different from other 3D scanners such as on cell phones?2024-04-23T19:37:46+00:00

At the high end of the market are a few manufacturers building the highest quality 3D scanners. Creaform, whose HandyScan Black Elite we use, is one of them. This 3D scanner is certified according to the VDI/VDE 2634 for optical 3D measuring machines. With which accuracies and scanning results are always guaranteed.

Can I come by to have something 3D scanned?2024-04-23T19:38:20+00:00

Yes, usually products are sent to us. If you prefer to bring it you are welcome at our premises in Uden, North Brabant

Can you also come by for a scan?2024-04-19T13:24:50+00:00

Yes, when it is necessary we will come and perform the 3D scan on site.

How does shipping work?2024-04-19T13:24:50+00:00

When you accept the offer, we will send you an invoice for the prepayment and a packing slip to send the product to us. As soon as we receive the package you will be notified, then our delivery time also starts. Please note that for shipping to us, you are responsible for insurance. When we send it back it is standard insured, if you have a preference for a particular carrier please indicate this on the request form.

What materials can you 3D scan?2024-04-23T19:37:40+00:00

For 3D scanning, it usually does not matter what color, gloss or material the product is. It can sometimes happen that we have to apply a temporary, mattifying spray, this is always by agreement and of course everything is returned clean.

What factors play a role in determining price?2024-04-23T19:38:20+00:00

First, the choice of package. Just an STL file of the 3D scan is the cheapest option (package 1). The other packages involve labor costs. Starting with package 3, you also get the (final) products.

Do you also offer scanners or training?2024-04-23T19:37:40+00:00

No, we offer a 3D scanning service, we do not sell 3D scanners or provide training.

What does a 3D scan cost?2024-04-23T19:37:40+00:00

This depends primarily on the package you choose, check the packages for examples. For your specific situation, make a no-obligation inquiry.

What do I need?2024-04-23T19:37:40+00:00

See our packages for this, are you in doubt? Please feel free to contact us.
